Cordero
Lodge offers 1200 feet of excellent moorage
in a sheltered nook behind Lorte Island in Cordero Channel, just off
Johnstone Strait, between Vancouver Island and the mainland British
Columbia coast. A two hour cruise west of the Stuart Island / Dent Island
/ Big Bay area, and half an hour north of Blind Channel, Cordero Lodge
is just out of the way enough to offer peace and privacy.
The
dining room at Camp Cordero, as it's known to residents of
the area, is more than just a place to eat. Yacht club burgees and mementos,
gifts left by visitors from all over the world adorn the warm varnished
beams and paneling.
A
wood-burning stove knocks the bite out of chilly nights and a piano
stands ready for impromptu songfests. When the mood is right, Reinhardt
has been known to make the rounds with ice-cold schnapps, introduced
by a hearty rendition of the traditional German toast, "Ein Prosit,
Ein Prosit, der Gemutlichkeit."
As for the food,
Doris's authentic German fare is a superb capper to the day. Cordero
Lodge is fully licensed, offering a full bar and an extensive wine list.
Liqueur coffees are a specialty of the house and, as if calories were
nonexistent, Doris turns out surprise desserts ranging from cheesecakes
and strudels to Schwarzwalder Torte with apparent ease.
If
you are staying at the lodge, you have a secure seat, but if you're
planning to stop by while out cruising, make sure to reserve your seat
ahead of time!
Cordero is indeed
a popular spot!
