Wildlife at Cordero fishing lodge, BC CanadaCordero Lodge offers more than “just” fishing!
West coast Canada is well known for panoramic views and bountiful wildlife but this particular piece of British Columbia geography boasts both in spades! Cordero Fishing Lodge & Marina is nestled in a protected bay in Johnstone Strait between the coast of BC and Vancouver Island.

The area around the Lodge has amazing numbers of bald eagles, deer, black bears, seals, sea lions, sea birds of all kinds as well as orcas (killer whales), porpoises and dolphins all against a backdrop of green islands and blue mountains that fade into the distance.

When you are salmon fishing or trout fishing, boating or hiking in the area you will have glimpses of these beautiful animals in their natural environment..

Bears at Cordero fishing lodge, BC CanadaBlack Bears
Bears are not uncommon and while they do occasionally come close to the lodge they amble away when people come around. This female black bear searches for salmonberries in the bushes while her cub lies in the dry grasses at her feet. Black bears are frequent visitors to the beach near the lodge where they look for crabs and other tasty crustaceans

Orca (killer whale)
Orca (killer whale) sightings are a treat! Although sighted more frequently in the spring and fall they are seen on occasion throughout the summer as well, especially when fishing or boating in Johnstone Strait, BC. Nearby Robson Bight is well known as a late summer destination for orcas. This is the home of the famous “rubbing beaches” where the killer whales rub against pebble beaches in the shallow waters of the bight.

Although the wildlife population seems to make this remote fishing oasis a busy place during the summer months, you'll notice that peace and quiet prevail more often than not.

Solitude in the wilderness is something we wish for all our Cordero Lodge guests to experience and enjoy whether they choose to go fishing, boating or hiking.

These creatures will often be the focus of your attention but if you look beyond you’ll soon see that our wildlife is just part of our stunning BC coastal scenery and landscapes.
